FEATURED ARTIST: BERNADETTE SMITH

I first came across Bernadette’s striking work whilst driving past it in a window display one sunny afternoon in Spring. So impactful it was to me, that I tracked her down to see it up close and personal, and I was delighted by even more equally bold yet innocent pieces ....here are a few of them that I hope you will like as much as I do. Bernadette Smith has an extensive international exhibition record with work included in collections in Germany, France, Britain, Australia and the USA. While living in Singapore her work has been exhibited at Art Forum Gallery, Chijmes Caldwell Gallery, the Australian High Commission and Shell Discovery Art exhibition. She also lectured full time at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University before returning to Australia in 2000 to teach Art History Theory at Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory. In 2000 she was the first Australian artist to hold a solo exhibition at Seniwati Gallery of Women Artists in Ubud, Indonesia. In 2003 she was selected for the Mosman Art Prize and was highly commended for painting in the Gosford Art Prize. In 2004 she was preselected for the inaugural Cromwells Art Prize and auction. Since 2002 she has been based in Newcastle.
